What is a health certificate?
It is also called a health examination report as it is a required document not only in the restaurant industry but also in work, immigration, and overseas travel. In order to work in the food and entertainment fields, you must undergo a health checkup at a public health center and have a health certificate in accordance with the laws of the Ministry of Food and Welfare and the Ministry of Health and Welfare. This is to prevent viruses or bacteria from entering the food. It is illegal for companies that manufacture and manage food to hire people without health certificates.

Health certificate issuing agency
It is said that it can be issued not only at public health centers, which you are commonly familiar with, but also at medical institutions such as general hospitals. The difference between the two institutions is the cost. Public health centers say it costs 3,000 won, while hospitals say there is no set amount. Likewise, if you go to the public health center with your ID card (resident registration card, passport, driver’s license) and get it issued for free, it will be much cheaper, right? However, not all hospitals issue health certificates and conduct tests, so please call in advance before visiting to check if tests are conducted.

You can also simply search for the Government 24 Health Checkup Results on the Internet and then get them issued.

Health certificate inspection items & issuance date
1. Skin disease
This is the most basic test. Skin disease testing is done by simply checking the fingers and fingers for skin diseases or by filling out a questionnaire.

2. Chest examination
A chest X-ray is taken to check for pulmonary tuberculosis or problems with the respiratory system. In pregnant women, a sputum test is performed instead.

3. Typhoid fever test (stool test)
This is the stool test you are most familiar with. This is probably the test that most people hate the most. After receiving a swab, a small amount of swab is inserted into the anus in the bathroom and the test is performed to check for bacteria in the large intestine. The basic test cost is 3,000 won, and adding a hepatitis test costs 8,670 won. However, if you do this test at a general hospital rather than a public health center, the cost is said to be a bit expensive, ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 won.

It is said that it takes about 5 days for the results to be issued.

Health certificate validity period
You cannot continue to use the health certificate after it is issued, and since it is health-related, it has an expiration date. The health certificate is valid for one year, so if one year has passed since you received it, you must get tested again and have it reissued.

How to receive a health certificate
To receive a health certificate, you can receive it within 7 days after the test. You can receive the test in person at a hospital or public health center or have it issued by mail or online. You can access the Government 24 or public health portal mentioned above. However, if you visit in person, you will need to carry your ID card or receipt. If you are unable to visit, you can pick it up on your behalf if you have the tester’s ID or representative’s ID.

How to reissue a health certificate
Re-issuance of a health certificate is possible within the validity period. It can be re-issued online through G-health, the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s online civil service service, and can be re-issued for free by visiting a public health center.

Today, we learned about how to issue and reissue health certificates. As mentioned, the health certificate has an expiration date, so you must re-examine and issue it before it expires. If you continue to work in the relevant industry after the expiration date, it is against the law. Also, even if you work in the same food and restaurant industry, if you change jobs, you must submit a new health certificate. If your health certificate is within its validity period, you can obtain it online and submit it as instructed above.
