What is the ‘Pregnancy and Childbirth Medical Expenses Support System’?
This is a system that supports voucher services that can be used to pay for pregnancy and childbirth-related medical expenses (covered/non-covered) out-of-pocket in order to reduce the burden of medical expenses related to pregnancy and childbirth and create a childbirth-friendly environment.
This year, 2022 in particular,

[Support Target]
① Pregnant women* and ② Legal representatives of infants and toddlers under 2 years old* can apply for pregnancy and childbirth medical expenses. * Pregnant women who have applied for pregnancy and childbirth medical expenses support as health insurance subscribers (or dependents) who have confirmed their pregnancy with the “Health Insurance Pregnancy and Childbirth Medical Expenses Support Application and Pregnancy Confirmation Certificate”
※ Those who gave birth (including miscarriages and stillbirths) who were unable to apply during pregnancy can also apply (applies to those who gave birth after ’17.9.19.)
※ Starting from 2019.7.1., ectopic pregnancies are included in miscarriages
※ Adolescent mothers under the age of 19 can apply for pregnancy and childbirth medical expenses support at the same time (’21.2.16. Notification revised)
[Support amount]
– Pregnancy with one child ▶ 1 million won
– Pregnancy with multiple children ▶ 1.4 million won
– An additional 200,000 won is provided for those residing in areas vulnerable to childbirth. ※Applies to applications for pregnancy and childbirth medical expenses after the system implementation date (January 1, 2022)
[Scope of Use] The subsidy is paid in the form of an electronic voucher (National Happiness Card) and can be used for all medical expenses and the purchase of medicines and treatment materials.
[Usage Period] It can be used for up to 2 years from the start date of use. – Start date of use: Date of voucher issuance
– End date of use: (Application before birth) 2 years from the expected date of delivery / (Application after birth) 2 years from the date of birth (miscarriage/stillbirth)
[Application method]
Apply online or in person at the National Health Insurance Corporation (☎1577-1000) or a dedicated financial institution (card company/bank), etc.

Bring the “Health Insurance Pregnancy/Childbirth Treatment Expense Support Application and Pregnancy Confirmation” issued by the hospital/clinic, and visit a National Health Insurance Corporation branch office, a dedicated financial institution (card company/bank), resident center, or public health center (only pregnancy can be applied) to apply. *If pregnancy/childbirth is confirmed online, no need to bring documents
