The reporting process when I was voice phishing, I did this!

Voice phishing that many people suffer from with a variety of methods, from phone calls to text messages and links! I also thought that I should always be careful, and I also asked my parents to always be careful.

보이스피싱 당했을때

But, unexpectedly, not long ago, my parents-in-law drank after being smeared.

I panicked momentarily, but I was able to finish without major damage thanks to being able to wake up right away and handle the work as quickly as possible.

However, as much as the process of solving it was so difficult, I would like to share the story I actually experienced and the reporting process when I was voice phishing in the hope that those who have gone through a similar situation can get over it without much damage!

I was smeared on KakaoTalk.

We were smeared, not voice phishing. Smishing refers to cases where damage occurs through messages such as text messages or KakaoTalk.

However, the reason why I chose the subject as When I was voice phishing was because I was also unfamiliar with the word smishing, and the first thing I searched for when it first occurred was how to report voice phishing.

The first time it happened was on a weekday afternoon. KakaoTalk came with an account impersonating the name of our groom, dropped the phone, and had to leave it for repair, but it was said that it had to be filed in the name of the father because of damage insurance.

Since it was a crime that lasted from the afternoon until late in the evening, to sum up what the perpetrator demanded of my father,

First, it asked to install TeamViewer.

Second, copy of bankbook and password

Third, I asked for a copy of my ID.

Lastly, I told you never to turn off your phone.

TeamViewer voice phishing

Of course, my father used TeamViewer for work, so the smishing crime took place rather quickly.

After installing TeamViewer, they told me to never turn off my phone and keep it on. At this time, the voice phishing criminal made a small payment through the Apple account that he had created in advance, and checked the text authentication number that arrived on his father’s phone through TeamViewer and paid an amount of about 1 million won.

The scary thing was that my father did not have an Apple account, and he made micropayments with his number from an account he did not know at all. As soon as I checked the text message for micropayment completion, I immediately deleted it so that my father would not see it.

And in the meantime, I opened a bank account using my father’s copy of the bankbook and ID, and three phones were opened at a thrifty telecommunications company. To start with the conclusion, we didn’t have any more damage than that, and we got a full refund, even micropayments.

It would have been really terrible if more damage had occurred. The most important thing is speed, so if you are judged to have been smeared or voice phishing, I will try to explain the first things to do based on my experience.

First, turn off your phone immediately.

If the app is installed by clicking on a link or TeamViewer like we did, turn off the phone first. It’s good to turn off your phone so you can’t do anything, because leaving it on can keep you working on something. We also told my father to turn off the phone immediately!

If you must use the phone, I recommend first inserting the SIM into another phone or using it after initialization. However, be sure to secure evidence for reporting!

Second, call the Financial Supervisory Service!

If you call Geumgangwon 1332, you can immediately make calls with various banks and credit card companies that can be reached within 24 hours. Even though it was past 12 o’clock in the morning, we called and took care of it right away.

Since they gave me the bank account number and password, all bank account deposits and withdrawals were immediately suspended, and even the use of public certificates was suspended.

Of course, the card was also immediately suspended. In other words, I called all the banks and credit card companies under my father’s name and stopped their financial services. Fortunately, I was informed that no payment had been made so far, so I was able to put my mind at ease.

What I was really grateful for at this time was knowing that it was an urgent situation, and originally, I had to be able to talk to my father in order to handle everything, but since he was my son, he helped me deal with it in a reasonable way. Also, if you absolutely need to verify your identity, you can use another phone to connect with your father to authenticate.

Having a 24/7 phone connection really helped! So, if it is difficult to go to the bank right away, regardless of time, I would like to recommend you to quickly suspend all accounts, certificates, and credit cards by phone unconditionally.

Third, contact your carrier!

As we have experienced this time, it seems that the easiest thing for phishers to do is micropayment. So it was good to call the carrier and ask them to stop microtransactions anymore. We have already paid, but we have stopped all micropayment services because there is a concern that additional payments will be made in the future.

Also, if a micropayment is confirmed, you must immediately call the carrier or Apple, etc. to request a refund, and we immediately called and applied for a refund. There is no guarantee that you will be accepted unconditionally, but you can try it, so it is important to apply first!

Fourth, apply for identity theft prevention service

The service was a service that allows you to check cell phones or loans that have been opened in your name. Like the police station, most of them recommend M Shaper.

However, we were so surprised that we had already revoked the public certificate, so it was almost difficult to sign up with MSafer, but fortunately, we were able to log in with Naver or Kakao Pay certificates.

As soon as I signed up, it was confirmed that three phones were opened at a budget telecommunications company in the name of my father, and I immediately called the customer center to inform them of the damage and canceled the opening.

In addition to MSafer, my father also signed up for a paid identity theft prevention service site that the groom used before, so I was able to figure out whether various loans were going on besides the telecommunications company. The place we signed up was Siren24, and it only costs a few thousand won, so if you find it difficult to sign up for MSafer because of the official certificate, we hope you will consider a paid service like Siren24!

At this time, my father was abroad, so it was difficult to check the details of deposit and withdrawal even when I went to the bank. It was reassuring to know that I was notified by text right away.

Fifth, visit the bank!

We got to know the facts late at night, and most of all, since my father was abroad, there was little we could do about going to the bank. At least I was able to find out whether there was a deposit or withdrawal. Fortunately, there was no other history, and there was no additional damage because all transactions had already been stopped.

However, when my father returned to Korea and visited the bank, he opened a new post office account in his father’s name. I think it was to use it as a cannon account or to get a loan. I had proceeded

And a new certificate was issued! If the bank is open during business hours, I would recommend going there right away.

Sixth, I need to reissue my ID!

We stopped using our existing driver’s license to prevent identity theft because my father gave the driver’s license photo to the phishing criminal. After that, my father personally visited and reissued it!

At this time, if a representative visits, you will need your ID card, representative ID card, and power of attorney, so be sure to prepare in advance.

Finally, report to the police station

Perhaps, isn’t it the first thing many people should report to the police station? I thought you would. However, as a result of my own experience, there was nothing the police station could do.

When I visited the police station to get help, they said that the victim had to visit the bank in person or proceed with the process online through an official certificate. In other words, since it is related to the financial side, it is something that individuals can do, and the police said that there is nothing they can do to help.

However, if the fact of damage is confirmed later, he told me to submit the evidence and proceed with the report. They gave me a handout and told me to do what it says here.

However, I thought that visiting the police station was meaningless because the handouts distributed by the police station were contents that could be found online enough. Rather, he said that the method we were subjected to was a method that caused damages of up to several hundred million won, so I was more surprised and anxious, and it seemed that the waiting time for counseling was impatient and wasteful.

So we thought that moving ourselves was the answer, so we didn’t proceed with further consultations, but since we still have to report it, we wanted to take care of all the work and recommend that you visit the police station later.

I found out that I had been voice phishing on a weekday night, and by the dawn of that day, I had dealt with everything that could be done over the phone or online. And I moved from the opening hours of the bank early the next morning, visited banks, police stations, and telecommunications companies to take care of necessary matters, and around that afternoon, I was finally able to confirm that there was no damage other than micropayments.

I don’t know how nervous I was when I heard that if I got a loan from the police station, I could lose hundreds of thousands of dollars. 🙁 In reality, people who live apart from their parents and don’t keep in touch often find out after a while that they often suffer great damage. It is important to contact them frequently, and above all, it would be better to share voice phishing or smishing techniques with your parents and ask them not to give out personal information.

It seemed that the groom, I, and my parents couldn’t eat anything that day.
