Passport photos need to be taken within 6 months, so once taken, it is difficult to use them again. I needed to renew my passport, so I needed a passport photo, but this time I took it myself. Fortunately, the photo was okay, and I was worried that my passport application would be rejected because of the photo, but fortunately it was issued.
I tried to match the specifications as much as possible by referring to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
Additionally, since you will be applying online, we will also check the information about the photo file for online use.

I looked around and used various apps, but the app called ‘Passport Photo’ was the best for taking self-portrait photos.

When I run the app and select the camera, a screen with a face and upper body line appears, and I took a picture according to that frame. I needed a white background for my passport photo, so I took it in the bathroom shower booth, but when I uploaded the photo when applying for a passport online, it was rejected because it was ivory, so I used the background change function provided by the app.
After taking the photo, you will be asked which country’s passport it is for. I select the Korean passport. I also checked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website to see if it was recently updated.
In the photo, the hair length (from crown to chin) is 3.2 to 3.6 cm, so I adjusted it to the circle provided by the app. After that, you can adjust the face angle and brightness. You can also change the background to white. All you have to do is extract the background color and change it to white. When taking pictures, the extraction tended to be clearer if you took pictures against a solid color background. It was completed through the process of extracting the background and smoothing the edges. Check the image below for the process of creating a passport photo with the passport photo app.
In the end, I was approved for passport issuance, so I took a passport photo for free and processed the passport issuance online. It was a waste of money to pay for passport photos, but I plan to use this method next time I extend it. They say that if the photo is distorted by removing the background color with Photoshop, it will not be accepted, but if the background color is taken well and there is no distortion in the photo, I guess it’s okay?! Actually, I was a little nervous while applying online and waiting for it to be issued. I’m afraid I might be rejected.
If you don’t want to be as nervous as I was, it would be a good idea to prepare a white background using batteries and take pictures.
