Apple Pay and Hyundai Card
If you are an iPhone user, you must have been waiting a lot when it will be distributed in Korea. The long-awaited Apple Pay will finally be introduced in Korea on March 21st. To use it, you must first prepare the card. Please note that only Hyundai cards are available and cannot be issued for anything else. Because Apple Pay is an NFC payment method, NFC payment follows the international payment standard called EMV. i.e. Eurocard, Mastercard and Visa cards only. Therefore, when issuing a Hyundai Card, a card with the Visa Master sign, not for domestic use, is issued. Hyundai Card signed an exclusive contract with Apple Pay until 2023. After that, I think other card companies will be able to do it. Check cards are also available, but they can be issued by SC First Bank, which is linked to Hyundai Card, and must be issued exclusively for overseas use.
Setting method
Find your wallet on your iPhone and click on it. Open it and press the plus button on the top right. After that, if you enter your card information or scan your card, you can register and use it right away.
To use it more conveniently, go to Settings, click ‘Wallet and Apple Pay’ and check ‘Double-click the side button’. Then, double-clicking the side button will automatically launch Apple Pay even on the locked screen.
In the case of Apple Watch, payment is completed after pressing the side button twice and touching it. For MacBook, payment can be made after clicking the Apple Pay button and recognizing the Touch ID fingerprint when paying online.
Where to use Apple Pay
Currently not available everywhere. The reason is that Apple Pay can only be paid where there is an NFC payment terminal. The NFC terminal is a non-contact payment method that allows payment by bringing it close. In Korea, most of them use the MS method of scratching the magnetic field and the IC method of inserting the IC chip into the terminal. Samsung Pay uses the MST method, which is similar to MS that uses scratching, so it can be used in most places where you can scratch and use magnetic. That’s why Samsung Pay has spread so quickly. This can be seen as the reason for the delay in the spread of Apple Pay in Korea. It has been delayed because the terminal has to be changed for the distribution of Apple Pay, but it is delayed because of the large amount of initial capital. Hyundai Card exclusively contracts with NFC payment terminals, and most convenience stores and Daehyang franchises will quickly spread, but it seems that initial use in the current local commercial district will be difficult. . However, as the use of iPhones by teenagers and 20s increases, it is expected that the supply of iPhones in places where young people use them will proceed quite rapidly. Currently, it can be used at GS 25, CU, Amat 24, and other convenience stores nationwide Costco, E-Mart, Lotte Mart, Idia, Starbucks, Mega Coffee, Shinsegae Department Store, Lotte Department Store, Lotte Mart, Homeplus, Paris Baguette, Lotteria, McDonald’s. Currently, transportation cards are not supported, but since there are many users, it is expected that they will become widespread.
