테무 쇼핑 Chinese shopping app ‘Temu’ lands in Korea… declares ‘targeting Asia’

테무 쇼핑On the 26th, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) and Yonhap News, citing the Chinese economic media Jemian Newspaper, reported that Temu has begun a full-fledged expansion into the Asian region, starting with its entry into Japan and Korea.
Previously, Zemian Newspaper reported on the 24th that Temu is collaborating with a third party in Korea to provide ‘last-mile’ (last-mile) logistics and delivery services to customers.
In Korea, Temu, like other regions, adheres to a low-price strategy, providing coupons worth up to 37,700 won to new members and holding temporary discounts of up to 90% on select products.
This strategy is the secret to Temu ranking first in the Google and Apple App Stores when it entered the U.S. market in September of last year.
Temu is an overseas shopping app from PDD Holdings, which operates Pinduoduo, a large Chinese e-commerce company. It started in the United States and entered Europe through Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Similar to Pinduoduo’s strategy in China, Temu also has a wide range of low-price products, some of which are less than $1 (1,300 won). We are reaching out to consumers suffering from high prices and living difficulties with a variety of low-priced products.
Temu entered Japan on the 1st of this month and expanded its business into the Asian market.
Temu has not revealed his next destination, but it is known that he is also looking to enter the Southeast Asian market.
In Korea, Temu competes with other Chinese shopping apps such as Shein and AliExpress.
As competition in the local e-commerce market intensifies amid China’s economic slowdown, overseas markets are becoming a new battlefield for Chinese companies.
PDD announced that its sales in the first quarter of this year were 37.637 billion yuan, up 58% from the same period last year, despite a slowdown in Chinese consumption. However, Temu’s sales were not disclosed separately.
As competition intensifies, lawsuits are also taking place between Chinese companies.
Temu filed a lawsuit in Boston federal court on the 14th, claiming that Sheein violated U.S. antitrust laws in the process of dealing with a clothing manufacturer.
The two companies are already engaged in a legal battle in federal court in Chicago. In the lawsuit, Shein claimed that Temu collaborated with influencers to defame them on social media.
