번아웃 증상Last year, the World Health Organization (WHO) began listing ‘burnout syndrome’ in the International Classification of Diseases.
The World Health Organization cited chronic fatigue, mental distance from work, and decreased work ability as symptoms of burnout syndrome.
Although it is not a medical disease, it is viewed as a factor that can have a serious impact on health.
▲ It was found that one in two office workers in Korea consider themselves to be workaholics.
Job Korea, an employment platform, conducted a survey on workaholism among 855 office workers and found that 48.5% of respondents described themselves as ‘workaholics.’
Among those who said they were workaholics, 52.5% responded that ‘I have no choice but to be a workaholic because I have a lot of work to do,’ and the proportion of voluntary workaholics who said ‘working is more comfortable and better than resting’ reached 47.5%.
It turns out that many workaholic office workers suffer from burnout.
When asked whether they had ever experienced burnout, 57.6% responded ‘often’ and 20.2% responded ‘very often.’
77.8% of workaholic office workers are suffering from burnout.
It was found that stress caused by excessive workload is highly likely to lead to job change.
When asked, ‘Are you preparing to change jobs because of the workload?’, 55.2% of workaholic office workers answered ‘yes.’
▲Experts say that burnout is a phenomenon that occurs when energy is depleted in a situation where one must repeatedly perform one’s role and shoulder the responsibility, and is most likely to be experienced by people who have been working in one field for a long time.
However, recently, young office workers in their 20s and 30s are also suffering from burnout.
In fact, one survey found that about half of people in their 20s and 30s are in a state of burnout.
The reason for this is believed to be the young generation’s distrust of the past, dissatisfaction with the present, and anxiety about the future, including excessive stress from college entrance exams during adolescence, coupled with employment instability.
We must accept the burnout phenomenon among young people as a serious social problem and come up with social solutions for their future.
