The Ministry of Environment (Minister Han Hwa-jin) confirmed the ‘2024 Electric Vehicle Distribution Project Subsidy Processing Guidelines’ (hereinafter referred to as the Subsidy Guidelines) and announced that it will disclose the government subsidy amount for each electric vehicle model calculated according to the subsidy guidelines from February 20th.
The Ministry of Environment announced the subsidy guidelines (draft) on February 6 and presented the direction of this subsidy reform as follows.
① Promote the distribution of high-performance and safe electric vehicles. Provide more subsidies to vehicles that have a long range on a single charge and a fast charging speed, while providing benefits to vehicles that are equipped with vehicle information collection devices and are easy to inspect for safety.
② By inducing innovation in battery technology, we plan to provide more subsidies to battery-equipped vehicles that have a light load and a high recycling value compared to the environmentally friendly performance of electric vehicles and have a low environmental burden.
③ Efforts by manufacturers to improve after-sales service and charging conditions for electric vehicles. Attempts to improve the convenience of using electric vehicles at the private level by strengthening differential subsidies according to the after-sales service capabilities of induction electric vehicle manufacturers and expanding benefits (incentives) for the expansion of charging infrastructure (infrastructure). Encourage them to continue their efforts.
④ Easing the entry barrier to electric vehicles for economically vulnerable groups, youth, and small business owners We plan to provide additional subsidies to these groups, while lowering the actual purchase price of electric vehicles by strengthening standards for full support and providing incentives proportional to the price discount.
The Ministry of Environment collected opinions from manufacturers and importers during the administrative notice period and collected and reflected the supporting documents necessary to calculate subsidies for each vehicle type. The confirmed subsidy guidelines and government subsidy amount* for each electric vehicle model are posted on the comprehensive zero-emission vehicle website (www.ev.or.kr).
* This amount also reflects additional incentives proportional to the vehicle price discount.
Jeong Seon-hwa, Director of Air Quality Policy at the Ministry of Environment, said, “As the subsidy guidelines have been confirmed, it is necessary to revitalize the supply of electric vehicles through rapid budget execution.” He added, “We will push ahead with the execution of electric vehicle subsidies without a hitch, including timely implementation of local government fund allocation and encouraging prompt progress in the announcement process.” revealed.
