(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Jeong-jin = Coupang Play’s first original drama ‘One Day’ captivated viewers from the first episode with its thrilling plot and intense directing. On the 26th, Coupang Play released the first episode of ‘One Day’ starring Kim Soo-hyun and Cha Seung-won at midnight.
The first episode depicts the story of an ordinary college student, Kim Hyun-soo (played by Kim Soo-hyun), who is falsely accused of murder.
Hyun-soo, who accidentally met a woman and spent a night with her, discovers her body the next day while trying to say goodbye, and is arrested as a murder suspect and detained, where he meets lawyer Shin Jung-han (played by Cha Seung-won).
‘One Day’, which was the first drama presented by Coupang Play and the meeting of the two actors Kim Soo-hyun and Cha Seung-won, garnered much anticipation even before its launch, lived up to those expectations with its cinematic directing and the two actors’ captivating acting.
In particular, Kim Soo-hyun, who returned after 1 year and 3 months since the drama ‘It’s Okay to Not Be Okay’, skillfully controlled and expressed the emotions felt by a college student who suddenly became a murder suspect, conveying to viewers a variety of emotions such as tension, fear, and resentment.
Cha Seung-won, who appeared in the latter half of the first episode, did not have much screen time or lines, but he showed off his own presence and added charm to the drama. [Provided by Coupang Play. Resale and DB prohibited]
Since it is an adaptation of the British ‘Criminal Justice’ and the American ‘The Night Of’, it was also fun to compare it with the original foreign works.
The basic plot is the same, in which a young man steals his father’s taxi, spends a night with a woman he meets by chance, and is falsely accused of murder, but the three works are full of the characteristics of each country.
‘Criminal Justice’ focused more on the meeting of the two main characters than the murder case itself in the first episode, while ‘The Night Of’ featured a Pakistani-American as the main character, incorporating the issue of racial discrimination in the United States throughout the work.
On the other hand, ‘One Day’ maximized the genre drama characteristics that have recently dominated the Korean drama market by dedicating most of the first episode to describing the process in which the main character Hyun-soo is identified as a murder suspect.
‘One Day’, which was produced in a total of 8 episodes, is released once every Saturday and Sunday at midnight. stopn@yna.co.kr
